Russell is Inspired’s Associate Dentist and joined us earlier this year. Russell graduated in 2020 from the Peninsula Dental School, where he was mentored by one of Inspired’s practice owners Dr Andre Faro-Leite. Despite the difficulties inherent to practising day-to-day dentistry during COVID-19 restrictions, Russell successfully completed his foundation year in dentistry at a practice in North Devon.
During Russell’s first year of training at the Peninsula dental school, Russell entered the annual Dentsply Sirona Global Clinical Case contest submitting an upper anterior composite bonding case of a 48-year-old with tooth wear of the anterior teeth. Russell’s skilful use of minimally invasive techniques gave this patient a smile that they were confident with. Upon completing his degree, Russell achieved first place in the UK heat of the clinical case competition. Russell was invited to present this case to an international panel of judges at a conference in Germany, but due to COVID-19 restrictions at the time, the conference was held online. Having presented this case, Russell was awarded 3rd place internationally, scoring higher than over 670 applicants worldwide. Both awards were a huge achievement for an aspiring clinician and gave him a taste of what is to come in his career.
In 2020, Russell was awarded the UK dental undergraduate award from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow for his clinical case submission of anterior composite bonding. Once again, Russell highlighted his exceptional skills in performing complex aesthetic dental treatments. Russell continues to provide composite bonding and smile rehabilitation treatments in practice today and have progressively developed and refined his skills and techniques using modern equipment and materials and state-of-the-art technology.
Whilst at university, Russell worked closely with the local community, providing treatment and oral health advice to the most vulnerable in the local community. This included performing treatments such as extractions and fillings and providing toothbrushes and toothpaste to those that did not have access to them. Russell also attended local primary schools to teach oral health education to children and promote the importance of oral health and developing a healthy relationship with dentists. Russell continues to treat children at Inspired and provides them with a safe and secure environment where they can feel relaxed during appointments.
In Russell’s third year at Peninsula dental school, Russell was award first prize in clinical effectiveness. Russell’s clinical work was appraised by the supervisors and Russell achieved the most ‘excellent’ ratings across all students of that year group. This again was a fantastic achievement for a student dentist and highlighted Russell’s commitment and dedication to his patients and the dental industry from the outset.
Russell has undertaken further level 7 training in Botox and dermal fillers with the highly renowned Derma-Institute in London and continues to build his portfolio towards completion of the qualification. Russell provides anti-wrinkle and dermal filler treatments at the practice as well as treatment for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). Russell also offers the very popular and much desirable ‘heart lips’ filler treatments. Russell’s combination of knowledge and love for smile design as well as facial aesthetics for facial rejuvenation ensure that his patients receive the full-package when it comes to their treatment at Inspired.
In a short space of time since qualifying, Russell has developed an extensive clinical portfolio of outstanding aesthetic cases. Russell has transitioned into solely fully private treatment and works between three clinics in the Southwest of England.
Russell has also completed his Invisalign training in 2021 and is an accredited Invisalign -Go provider. Russell has developed a keen interest in dental Implantology and has recently undergone his initial training with Implant Success. In November this year, Russell will be attending an implant residency in Brazil to gain a significant amount of hands-on implant placement experience. Russell is also assisting our Principal dentist Andre in implant treatments and bone grafting procedures here at Inspired.
In September 2020 Russell created his professional Instagram page: DrRHashemi and has since gained over 780 followers. Russell uses this platform to showcase his non-invasive techniques in aesthetic dentistry, with a particular focus on smile makeovers and composite bonding. Russell’s clinical photos speak for themselves and really showcase his exceptional talent. Russell has recently created a professional TikTok account and gained over 770 views on his first video, showcasing minimal preparation technique veneers.
Russell undertook a veneer masterclass with Ash Parmar in 2021 covering theoretical and practical insights regarding comprehensive dentistry using porcelain restorations. Russell has taken insights from this specialised training and put them into practice in his day-to-day treatment, providing patients with market-leading techniques during treatment to ensure clinical success and patient satisfaction.
In 2022 Russell attended a crown lengthening course with Edudent periodontal specialists to develop his skills and confidence in this area of treatment in order to offer his patients the best care using modern techniques.
Russell’s passion for aesthetic dentistry and clinical photography makes him stand out from other young dentists, he has excelled in his field very quickly and is certainly making a name for himself in dentistry.
Using intra-oral camera technology, Russell documents treatments for patient reflection upon completion. Russell’s passion for restorative treatments motivates him to thoroughly explain each case with his patients, showing imagery from pre-treatment, during exploration and post-treatment. Patients have reported this to be a modern approach that they have not experienced before that allows them to understand their treatment and appreciate the complexity, care and skill of Russell’s treatment whether this be anything from a filling, to a crown, to composite bonding.
Before commencing employment at Inspired Dental Care, Russell completed many hours of clinical observation at the practice, to fully understand techniques and skills of our experienced dentists. This allowed Russell to integrate seamlessly into our practice and build a reputable client basis already. It is safe to say that Russell’s patients are in extremely safe hands whilst in his surgery, he is supported by a team of fantastic nurses, administration staff and fellow clinicians to ensure he excels in delivering exceptional oral care.a
