It’s not all doom and gloom – Charities we have supported over the last few months

It’s not all doom and gloom – Charities we have supported over the last few months

Here at Inspired Dental Care we are dedicated to not only our patients’ oral health, but also our charity work. We believe it can not only make a difference to peoples’ lives and organisations, but it is an excellent way of bringing our team closer together. The last few months we really have been busy with our fundraising and we would like to use this opportunity to not only thank our amazing staff members for taking part, but to our wonderful patients who have kindly donated, wished us well and supported all of our fundraising.

In April Andre took part in Prostate Cancer UK’s ‘Run the month’ whereby the organisation challenge fundraisers to run 50 miles or more within a month to raise money and spread awareness to the disease that more than 47,000 men get diagnosed with annually in the UK – that is 129 diagnosis’ every day. By the end of the month, Andre had run 106 miles and raised £300 through sponsorships. Through Andre spreading awareness of this disease, we urge you all to be aware of the signs and symptoms of Prostate Cancer and if you are worried about your body to speak with your GP.

At the start of October Molly and Elle took part in Exeter’s ‘Inflatable 5K’ to raise money for Dementia UK – a charity very close to both of them. Reports have shown that there are over 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK today – approximately 42,000 of these are people with young onset dementia, which affects people under the age of 65. The 5K event happened on the 16th of October and the girls ran, slid and jumped their way to raising just under £700. To encourage donations, the girls contacted local businesses and managed to gather prizes for a raffle. The raffle is due to be drawn at the end of the month as they are really keen to try and make over £700. Both Molly and Elle would not only like to thank our generous patients for their sponsorships, but also a HUGE thank you to all the local businesses that donated their time/craft/skills/goods to the raffle which has helped them raise as much money as they have. You can donate via their online JustGiving page, Instagram donation button or in the practice.

At the end of October Brittany has decided to opt for a change in her life and in doing so she wants to raise money for an amazing charity. The Little Princess Trust provides free real hair wigs to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other conditions. Brittany will be cutting inches off her hair on the 28th of October and donating it to a child or younger person who in her words ‘needs it more than me’. We think this is amazing and she is currently at 30% of her £550 goal – if you would like to donate to her fundraiser please ask for her online JustGiving page link or you can donate at the practice. We can’t wait to see her new ‘do’!

Last but not least, our lovely Rachael is taking part in Cancer Research UK’s ‘Walk all over Cancer’ with her husband and two Sausage dogs Albus and Ernest. Rachael and her fundraising team will be walking 62 miles over the course of October to help fundraise and spread awareness for Cancer Research UK. Alike many others, Rachael has a strong passion to raise money for this charity and will be doing it in memory of her Grandad, Aunt and Uncle. Due to progress in technology and ground-breaking research, cancer survival rates have doubled over the past 40 years. Let’s help their research continue to grow and beat cancer together! If you would like to support Rachael please ask us for her online donations page or you can donate at the practice.

It seems that it is not only the staff members taking part in amazing fundraising at the moment; we have been made aware that our patients have been very busy too! Two of our amazing (yet possibly crazy) patients Adam and Charlotte have decided to row 3000 miles across the Atlantic to raise money for Mind Charity, Devon Air Ambulance, RDE Charity and the RNLI. They have called themselves the ‘EmergenSEA duo’ and their aim is to raise £100,000 for their chosen frontline medical charities. You can track their progress, see what they are getting up to and donate via their website www.emergenseaduo.com. We are so proud to sponsor this amazing challenge, see our logo on the boat and support such incredibly important charities and we wish both Adam and Charlie the best of luck with their race. We are rooting for you to secure the mixed pair world record!!! (We hope you have packed your anti-sickness tablets!)

We would love to hear your ideas about what charities and fundraisers you would like us to take part in over the next few months – the crazier, the better! Thank you for supporting, sharing and donating, from the bottom our hearts.
