IMPROVED DESIGNS FOR BETTER FUNCTION AND COMFORT

DENTURES EXETER

Dentures (commonly known as false teeth) have been the traditional way to replace missing teeth for centuries. Modern dentures are prosthetic devices made from the latest technology in acrylic resins (plastic) or cobalt chrome bases.

At Inspired Dental Care we also offer a Scandinavian denture design option known as the “gold standard” in denture construction because of their improved function and aesthetics.

Close to 19% of adults in the UK use either full or partial dentures, the popularity of dentures is due to the fact that they are commonly the least expensive way to restore appearance and function in cases where teeth have been lost.

IMPLANT RETAINED DENTURES

A very popular alternative to traditional dentures are dentures that are fixed to dental implants.
The dental implants act as replacement for the root of the tooth. This allows the denture to fit securely into your dental implant jaw and prevent excessive movement.

There are many benefits to having implant retained dentures these include:

  • Ability to enjoy foods without the worry that dentures may fall out.
  • Higher self esteem and confidence.
  • More comfortable.
  • Noticeable improvements in appearance and function.
  • Improved speech and taste.
  • No need to rely on denture adhesives.
FAQ´s

Dentures are a removable replacement for missing teeth. They can be taken out to clean and put back into your mouth again. Dentures require a period of adjustment whilst you get used to them and may never feel like your natural teeth despite them looking more natural and feeling more comfortable than ever before.

Over time your denture will need to be relined, remade or rebased due to normal wear. Rebasing is when a new base is created for your denture whilst keeping the teeth in the denture.
Your mouth will gradually change as you age and this will cause the denture to become looser, which in turn may make chewing more difficult and cause your gums to become irritated as well as other associated problems.

Regular visits to your dentist can ensure issues are highlighted as early as possible.

It is really important to take as good care of your dentures as you would your own teeth, cleaning regularly to prevent decay of remaining teeth, fungal infections and gum disease.

It may be advisable to start with a soft diet whilst getting used to your new teeth, the use of denture adhesive can help build your confidence.

  • It may take a few weeks for you to feel completely comfortable wearing your new dentures.
  • If you feel self-conscious about your denture coming loose whilst eating, an adhesive can give you peace of mind.
  • We advise you to remove your dentures at night before going to bed and store in a suitable container.
  • Clean your dentures with a medium brush and toothpaste or antibacterial soap over a sink of warm water or folded towel to prevent damage should they get dropped.
  • It is important not to use any type of bleaching product to clean your dentures. Bleaching can lead to weakening of the dentures as well as making them look unsightly.
  • Do not use hot water to soak your dentures.
  • Overnight, store your dentures in a glass of water or case to keep them safe from damage. Dentures need to be kept moist when not in the mouth.
  • You should still visit your dentist for routine Oral Health Examinations as advised.

Dentists do not only check your teeth, but also the soft parts of the mouth, including the tongue and cheeks. These examinations are just as important, so the dental team can spot any infections or mouth conditions early on.

A yearly oral cancer screening is recommended whether you have your own teeth or not.
